LO: To find information from a text and answer questions.
Starter
Last week we were researching information about a reptile of our choice. We used the computer to find a photo of our reptile and we thought of questions that we would like to find out about our reptile. Today, we are going to finalise our reptile profiles and write the answers to our chosen questions.
Parents to share how to use books, reptile profiles and the internet to find answers to our questions.
Activity
Student to choose whether they would like to use the internet, books or reptile profiles to find the answers to their questions.
Group 1: Answer questions using a key word- use colourful semantics.
Group 2: Answer questions using key words- use phonic knowledge to hear initial letter sound for each word.
Group 3: Answer questions using full sentences- use phonic knowledge to spell words. Remember finger spaces and correct punctuation.
Challenge
Can you think of one more question and find the answer using a different source? Write your answer independently.

LO: To extend our understanding of place value.
Starter
Parent to write a number on a piece of paper. Demonstrate how many 10s and ones in the number using available resources (dry pasta/counters). Repeat. Order the numbers with your child. Is it bigger or smaller than the previous number? Make deliberate mistakes when ordering numerals to see if your child correct you.
Activity
Group 1: Match number cards up to 5. Then match numbers to the correct amount (use resources to help).
Group 2 – Use paper to make cards with numbers on them. Ask your child to randomly pick up a card – recognise and say the number. Identify how many tens and ones in the number – use practical resources to represent this.
Challenge
Explore how 50 is the same as five tens. etc…

LO: To make a non-fiction book.
Starter
Let’s make a contents page for our book. What is a contents page? What does a contents page look like? Share a non-fiction book with your child (these are available online if you do not have one at home). Look at a contents page. Discuss the features. Why is a contents page important in a non-fiction book?
We are going to make a contents page for our non-fiction reptile profiles. Gather information about each animal profile – which reptiles have we written about?
Activity
Group 1: Collage reptile pictures to put on front cover.
Group 2: Create the title page and writing for front and back cover. What do we need on the front page? Title? Authors?
Group 3: Write a contents page for our book. Complete as a group activity. Discuss which features we need. Why are these features important?
Complete all activities if you wish.

Group 3 – read a range of fiction books about reptiles and discuss differences between non-fiction and fiction books. Share the new things that you have learnt with your family.

Use your phonic knowledge to write a sentence about a new fact that you have learned from your non-fiction book.

LO: To learn how to wash our hands
Starter
It is important that we wash our hands properly.
Activity (Complete the activity of your choice OR all three if you wish!)
Group 1 – practically learn how to wash hands (20 sec) using soap, making bubbles, washing back of hands and in between fingers. Learn the importance of drying hands to protect our skin.
Group 2 – make an information poster about washing hands and why it is important.
Group 3 – hand printing. Put glitter on hands too and wash it off. Does it come off easily or do you need to use soap and wash your hands thoroughly? (hand washing group 1 activity).

Starter
Discuss which is our favourite reptile. Make a choice from a range of photographs.
Activity
Children draw a picture/design a model and label the different parts of the reptile. Include information about the materials needed to make the model.
Children can explore different types of modelling materials eg clay, playdough, paper, Modroc, wire, paper straws etc to help them with their design.
Challenge
Make a list of the tools that we will need to make our 3D model.
Food tech
Make a healthy snack that does not require cooking.
