Art

We are learning about great Artists.

Watch and read some information about an artist called Paul Klee

His dad was a music teacher so he was interested in Art and Music.

Watch a children’s story about Paul Klee and discuss with your adult.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eqHJ9gDLkL8

Then watch and listen to another video clip for more information and to see more of his paintings.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IJ7ZGdfta84

Today I would like you and your adult to try an activity. Get a plain piece of paper and a pencil and place your pencil ready on the paper then ask an adult to start a piece of music and without talking or making any other noise make your pencil go up and down, backwards and forwards, different patterns, big or small. Keep in mind it’s your own personal work – whatever the music makes your hand do let it- this may need to be modelled by your adult first so you know what to do.

You can use coloured pencils or pens if you would like and any size or colour paper you want and you can start where you like on the paper just make sure your paper is blank.

Art

We are learning about great Artists.

Recap last week today when we looked at Paul Klee the Swiss/German artist, we are going to look on a website called Tate.org.uk see the link below and look on the kid’s section and we are going to, by choosing different art implements and colours and sizes, to try and make our own painting in the style of ‘Paul Klee’

As we are looking at the topic ‘Playlist’ I would like you to be inspired to create your Art while listening to a music track of your choice.

Try different types of music including music from the time period that he created his art pieces.

See if when you listen to different music tracks it makes you feel different inside and therefore create different art works.

ART

We are learning about Great artists and using a range of implements to create our own art work linked to them

Today we are going to look at the Russian artist Wassily Kandinsky who believed that art had a sense of movement.

Watch Kandinsky powerpoint with an adult and discuss (Home learning Term 6 Art folder)

The title ‘Swinging’ captures this work’s sense of movement. Kandinsky believed painting should aim to be as abstract as music. He worked to create art that was free from all references to the material world. For him, colour in particular was essential for liberating art from representing the visible world.

Gallery label, August 2019

Wassily Kandinsky, ‘Cossacks’ 1910–1

Cossacks 1910–1

What does playing in a playground make you feel like?

The artist Wassily Kandinsky believed that colours, lines and shapes affect our feelings and emotions in the same way that music can. You know how a slow sad song makes you feel down and a pop song with a happy, fast beat makes you want to dance? Well Kandinsky believed that creating a painting is like composing music.

In 1911 he wrote:

‘Colour is the keyboard, the eyes are the hammers, the soul is the piano with many strings. The artist is the hand which plays, touching one key or another, to cause vibrations in the soul’.

Have a go at using bright colours, dynamic shapes and lines shooting into the air to express your whizzing, climbing, running, dizzying playground experiences

Get as many different implements together, pencils, paints and printing materials and your paper or card and think about how you feel when playing in a playground and the movements you make- one at a time try and create your Klee like painting to show movement- don’t forget to sign it!!

Challenge

Re-look at the powerpoint and get all of the equipment ready you need and try to create a Concentric circle picture like Kandinsky.

Also in the folder there is a colouring page of one of his paintings- if you get an adult to look up the picture first you can then identify the right colour and colour the part of the picture in the right colour.

MONDAY 22.6.20

11:10 – 12:00

ART

We are using a range of construction materials

Look at a range of musical instruments if you have any in the house great if not online (or in the Home learning  Term 6 Art folder)  What  materials they are made from?

How do the instruments produce their sounds?

How are the materials they are made from joined?

Is the instrument solid or hollow and tuned or untuned?

How does it create different notes?

Activities

  1. Watch and listen to the powerpoint about Musical instruments after this watch and listen and join in with the What am I? ( Home learning Term 6 Art Woodpecker)
  2. Make sketches or diagrams of three instruments, annotating the unique features of each one if possible.
  3. Try to make your own instrument- see below

  •

Note
Freely think about and  explore how many sounds can be made with each instrument and how to make them louder, quieter, longer or shorter. Which sounds are their favourite and why.  When you make different musical instruments can you and your family categorise according to how the sound is produced (e.g. percussion, strings, brass and wind)

Challenge

Watch the body percussion powerpoint and try and use your body to make different sounds

MONDAY 29.6.20

11:10 – 12:00

ART- continue with instrument making

MONDAY 6.7.20

11:10 – 12:00

ART

We are demonstrating an awareness of the purpose of different materials.

Look at different pictures on the internet and evaluate a range of headphones and ear muffs to compare the effectiveness of different designs in blocking out sound.  With help from your adult compile a list of factors that make these designs effective and design a pair of their own funky ear muffs using a range of different soundproofing materials.

Activity
Adult to provide children with a range of materials such as bubble wrap, foam sheeting, cotton wool, artificial fur, blanket material or carpet samples – find anything that you have around the house.

Test their soundproofing effectiveness, recording findings in a bar chart or graph.

MONDAY 13.7.20

11:10 – 12:00

ART- continue with headphone making.
