Frankenstein by Mary Shelley looks at what happens when one man decides to play God. His actions ultimately lead to his own downfall.

The novel was first published in 1818. It was written originally by Mary Shelley as a short story when the poet Lord Byron suggested that each member of a group of friends write a ghostly tale to keep themselves entertained. Mary's story was the undoubted winner. This video is all about the author of the story. It is a long video so you don’t have to watch it all at once. If any of the ideas upset you, please stop and move onto another activity. Remember a Gothic Horror story is trying to scare people, it is a warning to think about the consequences of your actions.

Interesting vocabulary:
Adjectives (describing words) – dark, cloudy, ancient, creaky, crumbling, icy (think of five more)
Verbs (doing words) – scurrying, pounding, screeching, wailing, crashing (think of five more)

Remember to use exciting adjectives to describe the scene, characters and emotions. As well as interesting verbs or doing words.
